Bank statement to Google Sheets
Google Sheets cannot read a PDF statement. Convert it here and import the file: the transactions arrive as dates and numbers you can sum, filter and chart.
Check the table. If a column is wrong, change its type in the header: the spreadsheet is made from what you see.
Your statement never leaves your device
How to do it
- Choose your PDF statement here and check the transactions table.
- Click "Download Excel".
- In Google Sheets, go to File › Import › Upload and choose the downloaded file.
- Choose "Insert new sheet(s)" to add it to the spreadsheet you have open, or "Create new spreadsheet".
Tips
- Excel rather than CSV: with an XLSX file the dates and amounts arrive as values whatever the locale of your spreadsheet. A CSV can turn amounts into text if the locale expects another number format.
- Every month, import the new statement with "Insert new sheet(s)" and keep a summary sheet with SUMIF over the descriptions.
- The PDF is converted on your device. Only the spreadsheet you decide to import goes to your Google Drive.
Questions
Can I import the CSV instead?
Yes: File › Import › Upload, choose the CSV and leave the separator on "Detect automatically". If the amounts come out as text, change File › Settings › Locale, or use the Excel file.
Does this connect to my Google account?
No. The site never asks for access to your Google account. You download the file and import it yourself.
Is my statement uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser reads the PDF and builds the file on your device. The statement is not sent anywhere: you can go offline after this page has loaded and it keeps working.
Does it work with scanned statements?
Not yet. Only digital statements downloaded from online banking work, because they have the text inside. A scan or a photo is just a picture and would need text recognition (OCR), which we do not offer for now.
